18A – Create a Customer Avatar

My prototypical customer in my customer segment, which I have already identified and researched, is a woman between the ages of 18 and 23 but feels 25 with the stress of adulthood. She is also a student at the University of Florida pursuing an undergraduate degree. However, this age gap encompasses the ages in which students are pursuing their undergraduate degrees and potentially masters. She doesn't work, she has her families financial stability as support. This woman has light brown long-hair and has a more relaxed look, as indicated below with the avatar wearing a sweatshirt. She doesn't care about putting on very much makeup or strategically planning her clothes - she's at a library or study area to get work done and go home. Although my prototypical customer can also be a male with the same identified characteristics - the female to male ratio at the University of Florida is 56% to 44%.

Final set of questions:

  • What do you have in common with the customer avatar?

I am a woman who is 21 years of age, so I fall within that age group. I am studying at the University of Florida to obtain an undergraduates degree. I do feel as though I am 25 years old due to the extreme stress of adulthood. I have blonde hair. I don't care about putting on very much makeup or planning my clothes for the day.

  • If you have anything in common with the avatar, do you think that is a coincidence? Why?
No I don't believe any of these are coincidences. Blonde hair is a trend amongst this age group at the moment. My target segment encompasses students and faculty studying or working at the University of Florida - so most individuals are pursuing their undergraduate degrees. The female to male ratio at the University of Florida is a known statistic.

  1. Hi Caitlyn!
After seeing your post on this assignment, I have found things that I could have done better on my own post, setting up my post in an interview format for example. If we redid this assignment, I think you should make your avatar look happier because she has a sad vibe. Thank you for putting time into this assignment, it’s really good.
    Good Job!

  2. Caitlyn,

I found it interesting that you chose to create a female avatar because of the male to female ratio at UF, and an undergraduate student because of the graduate to undergraduate ratio. I think this was a good move for other reasons, as well. For example, I feel like females are more willing to spend more money on a fancier coffee than males are (that's a generalization of course).

  3. Hi Caitlyn,
I thought it was interesting that your target audience was a female specifically with light brown hair, at first I felt that was pretty exclusive. As you got into the percent of females to males at UF, it made a lot more sense. I also found it interesting that you described how they may at/ dress because the whole time I felt like that is me.

  4. Hi Caitlyn, it was interesting to see in this post how you detailed the customer's source of income as a feature of what drives this person to purchase the coffee product you are selling. The fact that this person does not spend their own money might explain why they can afford to pay for quality coffee or eat out more. It is also strategic to think about to see how the statistics of the university play into who will be buying your product. So I'm glad you included that in your analysis. Your prototypical customer is definitely more likely to be a female. I would re-consider whether this customer does not strategically match clothes or worry about makeup. For most females on a college campus like UF, who are willing to pay for quality coffee out, may be more likely to use appreciate style and value appearance. Maybe not all, but a significant amount. Thanks.
