The story: In Springfield, Illinois the Illinois Department of Public Health, otherwise known as IDPH, has fined Bridge Care Suites approximately $50,000 for two incidents of failed patient care.
The problem: The problem is that caretakers at the nursing home failed to administer pain medication to one patient and they neglected another patient's wounds.
Who has the problem: The patients who are not receiving the proper patient care at the nursing home have the problem. These two incident left the patients in terrible condition and pain for over a day. Moreover, their families who have to aid and protect them also have to deal with this experience.
2. Local vape shops lose profits due to recent tobacco law

The story: An ordinance has been signed by Alachua County to change the minimum legal age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21.
The problem: Local vape shops are now reporting decreases in sales and salaries in Alachua County due to the new age restriction on purchasing tobacco, e-cigarettes, and nicotine.
Who has the problem: Alachua County vape shop owners, individuals under the age of 21 who utilize tobacco, as well as other gas stations and businesses that sell tobacco regularly.
3. Health experts: Human-to-human spread of new virus worrying

The story: The coronavirus is a new virus that initially emerged in China. Since then, many people in China have died and the virus has spread to an additional 16 other countries. Countless people are worried and there is no cure at the current moment in time.
The problem: The coronavirus is continuing to spread and there is no cure.
Who has the problem: Citizens within China as well as everyone around the world. The virus continues to spread across countries, and without a known cure this could be any and everyone's problem.
4. Powerful earthquake near Jamaica and Cuba jolts South Florida - and there's a chance of aftershocks

The problem: According to the article, natural disasters are frequently occurring and getting more extreme by the years. The cost of repair and lives at risk creates a major problem specifically for South Florida in the article.
Who has the problem: Individuals who live in Cuba and Jamaica - as well as those who reside in the Florida Keys and in Miami, Florida.
5. Effort Raises 50k for Injured UF Student

ReplyDeleteI think you did a really nice job of diversifying your stories. I found it interesting searching through the local newspapers because I don’t usually read local news. It made me more aware of what was going on in the community. For example, I also found out that a UF student had recently fallen from a parking garage and was shocked that I hadn’t previously heard about it.
